The second edition of ‘Fashion Bridges – I ponti della moda’ took place in the past few weeks. The project of the Italian Embassy in South Africa, which started last year, was realised together with Polimoda Firenze and Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI), in collaboration with South African Fashion Week (SAFW), and with the support of ICE-Agenzia, Centro di Firenze per la Moda Italiana and Nelson Mandela Forum, and is aimed at creating an innovative partnership between Italian and South African fashion industries.
This year, Italian fashion designer Marianna Rosati, an alumna of Polimoda and now Creative Director of her brand DROMe, presented her latest collection on the opening night of the South African Fashion Week in Johannesburg and, the following week, in a runway organised at the Residence of Italy in Cape Town. The events were a great success among the public and the press, who undoubtedly appreciated the outstanding level of creativity and craftsmanship of the Italian brand.
The designer also held two lectures, organised by the Embassy, with students from the Department of Fashion and Design at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) and the FEDISA Institute in Cape Town, who participated with great enthusiasm and interest, and she attended a number of meetings with journalists and some entrepreneurs in the fashion industry, which could lead to future collaborations.
