Visas

The Italian Embassy in Pretoria is responsible for:

  • issuing visas for citizens residing in: Namibia, Madagascar, Mauritius, and Lesotho;
  • visas for South African citizens holding diplomatic, service, and official passports;
  • visas for Malta (tourist visas only; for other visa categories, applications must be submitted to the competent diplomatic-consular offices of the Republic of Malta) – Service resumed in April 2022.

Starting from September 11, 2017, to obtain a Schengen visa in South Africa, it is possible to submit the online form available at the following link or to book an appointment for personally submitting the visa application and all the relevant documents.

 

IMPORTANT: The Italian Embassy in Pretoria does not issue visas for South African citizens holding ordinary passports.

 

For the district of Johannesburg, the outsourcing agency VFS GLOBAL is responsible for appointment requests and the submission of visa applications. For type C and type D visas, the collection of visa applications and related documentation is handled by the outsourcing agency VFS GLOBAL, in coordination with the Consulate General of Italy in Johannesburg.

Thanks to the Visa Database, you can obtain information on how to apply for a visa to enter Italy. Since June 6, 2013, the Visa Office of the Italian Embassy has been connected to the VIS  (Visa Information System).

ATTENTION

The Embassy of Italy no longer accepts cash payments. Payment for all Consular Services and Visa applications must be made exclusively via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). Consular fees for Schengen and national visas are available here .

All bank charges related to the transfer are the responsibility of the applicant, and the full amount due must be credited to the Embassy’s bank account. Should the amount received be less than the required fee, the requested services or documents cannot be processed until the full amount is duly paid. Applicants are strongly advised to verify with their bank that all transfer charges are covered by the sender. To avoid additional fees associated with cash deposits, payment via EFT is requested.

The payment reference must correspond to the surname of the person requesting the Consular Service, not the name of the person making the payment, if different.
