The Italian Embassy in Pretoria is responsible for:
- issuing visas for citizens residing in: Namibia, Madagascar, Mauritius, and Lesotho;
- visas for South African citizens holding diplomatic, service, and official passports;
- visas for Malta (tourist visas only; for other visa categories, applications must be submitted to the competent diplomatic-consular offices of the Republic of Malta) – Service resumed in April 2022.
Starting from September 11, 2017, to obtain a Schengen visa in South Africa, it is possible to submit the online form available at the following link or to book an appointment for personally submitting the visa application and all the relevant documents.
IMPORTANT: The Italian Embassy in Pretoria does not issue visas for South African citizens holding ordinary passports.
For the district of Johannesburg, the outsourcing agency VFS GLOBAL is responsible for appointment requests and the submission of visa applications. For type C and type D visas, the collection of visa applications and related documentation is handled by the outsourcing agency VFS GLOBAL, in coordination with the Consulate General of Italy in Johannesburg.
