{"id":817,"date":"2019-09-19T15:47:50","date_gmt":"2019-09-19T13:47:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambpretoria.esteri.it\/news\/dall_ambasciata\/2019\/09\/incontro-dell-ambasciatore-d-italia-2\/"},"modified":"2019-09-19T15:47:50","modified_gmt":"2019-09-19T13:47:50","slug":"incontro-dell-ambasciatore-d-italia-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambpretoria.esteri.it\/en\/news\/dall_ambasciata\/2019\/09\/incontro-dell-ambasciatore-d-italia-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Meeting of the Ambassador of Italy with George Bizos, Sophie De Bruyn and Anthony Mongalo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On September 18, 2019, the Ambassador of Italy in Pretoria<strong> Paolo Cuculi<\/strong>\u00a0had a meeting with three icons of the struggle against Apartheid: <strong>Mr. George Bizos<\/strong>, <strong>Ms. Sophie Williams De Bruyn<\/strong> and<strong> Mr. Anthony Mangalo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Ambassador underlined the support to anti-apartheid movements from the Italian Government, local administrations (especially the city of Reggio-Emilia) and the Italian Citizens.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"resource\/img\/2019\/09\/se-bizos1_0.jpg\" alt=\"se bizos1 0\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mr. George Bizos<\/strong> is been an important Human Rights activist, and has been the lawyer of Nelson Mandela and ANC, since the Rivonia Trial (1963-1964).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"resource\/doc\/2019\/09\/se-debruyn-mongalo.jpg\" alt=\"se debruyn mongalo\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On 9 august 1956, almost 20.000 women staged a peaceful demonstration along Pretoria&#8217;s street, to protest against Apartheid&#8217;s Pass Laws. <strong>Ms. Sophie Williams De Bruyn<\/strong> (first seated from the left) has been one of the four leaders who organised the &#8220;1956 Women&#8217;s March&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>A key figure of Apartheid&#8217;s struggle, <strong>Mr. Anthony Mongalo<\/strong> (first standing from the left) was initially the ANC representative in Italy and, after the advent of Democracy, he served as South African Ambassador in Rome.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"On September 18, 2019, the Ambassador of Italy in Pretoria Paolo Cuculi\u00a0had a meeting with three icons of the struggle against Apartheid: Mr. George Bizos, Ms. Sophie Williams De Bruyn and Mr. Anthony Mangalo.
