﻿{"id":96,"date":"2022-11-29T14:54:48","date_gmt":"2022-11-29T13:54:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambpretoria.esteri.it\/italia-e-sud-africa\/diplomazia-scientifica\/"},"modified":"2022-11-29T19:28:30","modified_gmt":"2022-11-29T18:28:30","slug":"diplomazia-scientifica","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ambpretoria.esteri.it\/en\/italia-e-sud-africa\/diplomazia-scientifica\/","title":{"rendered":"Diplomacy scientific"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL COOPERATION<\/p>\n<p>The cooperation between Italy and South Africa in Science and Technology (S&amp;T) is regulated by the bilateral cooperation agreement signed in Pretoria on the 15th of January 1998.<\/p>\n<p>The strategic S&amp;T areas of cooperation are:<\/p>\n<p>Physics, Astrophysics and Radio-Astronomy<br \/>\nInformation Communication Technology<br \/>\nBiotechnology<br \/>\nNanotechnology and New Advanced Materials<br \/>\nMedicine and Health<br \/>\nGreen and Renewable Energy and Environment<\/p>\n<p>In March 2015, the Italian Embassy in South Africa opened its S&amp;T office. It is part of the S&amp;T attach\u00e9 network established by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation through its Unit for Bilateral and Multilateral Scientific and Technological Cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>The role of S&amp;T attach\u00e9s is to showcase and capitalise on the sectors of excellence in scientific and technological research and support the advancement of Italian companies operating in advanced technology sectors. Particularly:<\/p>\n<p>to support and to develop the definition of bilateral cooperation agreements and the application of the related executive protocols;<br \/>\nto promote the Italian S&amp;T system;<br \/>\nto provide proper information on the South African science policy and system;<br \/>\nto support and promote the cooperation between Italian and South African universities and public research institutions<br \/>\nto liase with South African researchers and Italian researcher locally employed by South African institutions to support mobility, cooperation and joint research projects between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>These activities, whenever appropriate, must be promoted in cooperation with the local Italian Institute of Culture, the Italian Trade Agency, the local Italian-South African Chamber of Trade and Industries and the Embassy\u2019s trade office.<\/p>\n<p>The S&amp;T attach\u00e9s, who operate in 20 countries, are usually selected among the scientists employed by the Italian public research institutes and universities.<\/p>\n<p>The Italian S&amp;T institutional framework<\/p>\n<p>The Italian S&amp;T system is formed by a considerable number of public entities whose management is ensured and regulated by a few ministries:<\/p>\n<p>Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI)<br \/>\nMinistry of Education, University, and Research (MIUR)<br \/>\nMinistry of Cultural Heritage, Activities, and Tourism<br \/>\nMinistry of the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea<br \/>\nMinistry of Health<br \/>\nMinistry of Economic Development<\/p>\n<p>The main public S&amp;T research institutes and entities managed by the MIUR are:<\/p>\n<p>National Council on Research (CNR)<br \/>\nItalian Space Agency (ASI)<br \/>\nNational Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN)<br \/>\nNational Institute of Astrophysics (INAF)<br \/>\nNational Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV)<br \/>\nNational Institute of Research in Metrology (INRIM)<br \/>\nNational Institute of Oceanography and applied Geophysics (OGS)<\/p>\n<p>Additional national institutes relevant to national and international S&amp;T cooperation are:<\/p>\n<p>National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA)<br \/>\nNational Institute of Mathematics (INDAM)<br \/>\nNational Institute of Health (ISS) &#8211; Italian Institute of Technology (IIT)<br \/>\nNational Institute for Environmental Research and Protection (ISPRA)<\/p>\n<p>Useful links:<\/p>\n<p>Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation \u2013 Servizio Netvibes \u201cScience Diplomacy\u201d<br \/>\nResearchitaly \u2013 Italian research just a click away<br \/>\nThe Italian S&amp;T Information Network (RISET)<br \/>\nInnovitalia \u2013 Italian research across the world<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL COOPERATION The cooperation between Italy and South Africa in Science and Technology (S&amp;T) is regulated by the bilateral cooperation agreement signed in Pretoria on the 15th of January 1998.
