Fashion bridges: the collection of the designers part of the project revealed at Milan Fashion Week

On the occasion of the opening of the Milan Fashion Week, in front of a select group of about 400 people, yesterday the CNMI’s President, Carlo Capasa, and Madam Ambassador Oriana Mannaioli Cuculi, influencer Maps Maponyane, in the presence of the Director of Polimoda, Massimiliano Giornetti and SAFW CEO, Lucilla Booyzen, partners of the project, launched the collections of the young designers protagonist of the initiative “Fashion Bridges – I Ponti della Moda”. Four are the topics that inspired them: “Syrrogism” by Jaques Bam and Julian Cerro, “Mutual Threads” by Fikhile Sukulu and Ilaria Bellomo, “Within social sculpture“ by Sipho Mbuto and Alessia Dovero, “The present human in an absent world” by Michael Peter Reid and Domenico Orefice.

The uniqueness of this initiative, as said by the testimonial Maps Maponyane, is “to create a link between two countries apparently so distant, yet able to translate diversity into creativity”. The pair Michael and Domenico won the Buyers Award and a special mention has been recognized to the pair Sipho and Alessia.

Every item is the result of the cultural and professional exchange between Italy and South Africa, in an innovative and inclusive journey through the two countries, as Maps Maponyane described the project. The designers knew how to blend their creativity in an extraordinary way, giving life to unique works. It will be possible to see the collection in person until Monday 27th September.

The collection will be presented at the South African Fashion Week too, which will take place in Johannesburg in October.
